WELLNESS CARE AND VACCINATIONS
At Fox Run Veterinary Hospital, we believe that the best way to promote overall health is through preventative care. We focus on preventative medicine by partnering with our clients to help their pets live long healthy lives. This is done through regular thorough wellness exams, tailored vaccine protocols based on each pet’s lifestyle, wellness bloodwork, nutrition and weight-loss counseling, and parasite prevention. Caught early through regular checkups, many diseases can be avoided, cured, or controlled.
One of the most important aspects of caring for your pet’s health is vaccinating them against potential diseases. Our veterinarians will work closely with you to determine the best vaccination protocol for your pet based on their lifestyle and unique risks. We will also offer vaccine titers to help prevent over-vaccination. Because cats are prone to injection site reactions and tumors we ONLY carry and give non-adjuvanted vaccines to our kitty patients, almost completely eliminating the risk of reaction.
Parasite prevention is another important aspect of wellness care. While we do not see as many ticks, fleas, intestinal parasites, and heartworm as we do in other areas of the country, cases in Colorado are on the rise in recent years so we strongly believe that having the right prevention plan in place for your pet’s lifestyle is critical.

SENIOR PET CARE
As your pet ages, their health needs change in unique ways. It is easy to forget that many pets are considered seniors after just seven years of age. It is important as your pet ages to have them regularly examined by our veterinarians and to have wellness bloodwork done for them each year so that illnesses can be caught early. Our veterinarians will work with you to develop a nutrition and exercise plan appropriate for your aging pet.
As a pet owner, you want to ensure that your pet has the highest quality of life as they age. With proper veterinary care, they may even get more time to spend with you and your family!
MICROCHIPPING
At Fox Run Veterinary Hospital we believe that every pet should be microchipped. Every year, thousands of pets go missing from their homes. Microchipping your pet and keeping your contact information up-to-date can help reunite you with your furry family member if they are ever lost.
Microchipping is simple, safe, and effective. We implant a tiny chip underneath your pet’s skin. It is a relatively painless and fast procedure and is completely safe. We then walk you through the steps on how to register your vital contact information to the chip. If your pet is ever lost and scanned by a veterinarian or animal shelter they will be able to easily get in contact with you so that your pet can be returned.
We are also happy to scan any lost or stray pets for a microchip at anytime. Just drop by and one of our friendly staff members will assist you!
ADVANCED DENTISTRY
Dental care is vital to a pet’s overall health. Dental disease that goes untreated can lead to health issues with your pet’s heart, liver, and kidneys and can affect the entire body through the bloodstream. If your pet has bad breath, difficulty eating, or heavy tartar/calculus on their teeth these could all be signs of dental disease.
There are a lot of different ways to improve your pet’s dental hygiene, including home brushing, dental chews, and regular examinations of their mouth by your veterinarian. The Veterinary Oral Health Council has a great list of approved home-care products that have undergone studies to show their effectiveness at vohc.org.
However, the most effective way to protect your pet from dental disease is through professional cleanings. At Fox Run Veterinary Hospital we perform dental cleanings and advanced dental care such as surgical extractions and bonded sealants on fractured teeth. All of our veterinarians are trained to be comfortable with these procedures.
Every patient that has a dental cleaning performed at our hospital has full mouth radiographs taken while under anesthesia. Because the most serious dental disease happens below the gumline, we feel that it is poor medicine to not include these with the procedure. We also include preoperative bloodwork prior to anesthesia so that we are practicing gold standard care on every patient that walks through our door!
INTERNAL MEDICINE
Internal medicine and challenging medical cases are a passion of our veterinarians. Our clinic has a full on site laboratory, ultrasound, and digital radiology. We use these non-invasive methods (bloodwork, x-rays, and ultrasonography) to look at the function of your pet’s organ health and give our doctors a clearer picture of your pet’s overall health.
We love solving puzzles and feel it is important that when your pet is ill that we are thorough in our diagnostic and treatment approaches to provide your pet the very best care. We also partner with local specialists in ultrasonography, cardiology, oncology, and internal medicine to make sure that your pet is well taken care of.
ROUTINE AND SOFT-TISSUE SURGERY
At Fox Run Veterinary Hospital we are proud to offer state-of-the-art surgical procedures by our experienced and highly trained doctors. We realized that having your pet undergo surgery can be stressful, and we want to reassure you that your pet is in good hands.
We offer surgery packages at our hospital that include pre-operative bloodwork, surgical fluids with an IV catheter, anesthesia, comprehensive and continuous monitoring of your patient, and pain control so that your patient is receiving the very best in care.
Our doctors are comfortable doing all routine procedures (spays, neuters, mass removals, laceration repairs, etc.) and a number of more complicated soft tissue surgeries such as abdominal exploratories, biopsies, cystotomies, gall bladder removals, amputations, etc. If you have any questions about the comfort level that our doctors have in performing a certain procedure please do not hesitate to ask.
The day of your pet’s surgery we will communicate with you before, during, and after to help minimize any stress and worry.
EUTHANASIA AND HOSPICE CARE
Has your pet been diagnosed with a terminal illness? Are they aging and declining in health? Walking alongside your pet during these difficult times and knowing when it's the right time to say goodbye can be a very stressful time in any family’s life. We don’t want you to be alone at the end stages of your pet’s life, and we promise we will do everything we can to make it easier on you and your pet. Most of all, we promise to treat each of you with compassion and understanding.
Our veterinarians provide end-of-life hospice care to keep your pet comfortable towards the end of their life. We are also willing at any time to provide a quality of life consultation. When you decide it is the right time to say goodbye to your pet we can discuss where and when you would like this to happen. Occasionally, if schedule allows, we are available for in-home euthanasias as we know that allowing your pet to gracefully pass in the comfort of his or her own home, without the added stress of a trip into the clinic can be a gift. If we are not available for an in-home euthanasia and this is what you desire we can refer you to other in-home euthanasia companies. The three that we partner with are Dr. Kelly Hutchison with White Whiskers Aging Pet Care (719) 799-6670, Dr. Melissa Vollaire with Transitions Veterinary Services (719) 309-7270, and Lap of Love (719) 960-4829.
After euthanasia (either in our veterinary office or in your home), we work with a local pet crematory to offer both communal and individual cremations. All cremations include a clay paw print and urn.
PAIN MANAGEMENT
Pain can be a terrible thing, and when our pets are in pain, so are we. At Fox Run Veterinary Hospital, we want to alleviate as much pain and discomfort in our patients as possible. We are dedicated to providing our patients with top-notch pain management plans.
Whether your pet is suffering from chronic pain secondary to arthritis or cancer or they have recently undergone a painful procedure or been injured, we are here to partner with you in making sure their pain is controlled. If you believe your pet is experiencing pain, please call our office to set up an examination and consultation with one of our veterinarians so that we can develop a plan to keep your pet comfortable.
IMAGING – RADIOLOGY & ULTRASOUND
At Fox Run Veterinary Hospital we offer state-of-the-art imaging technology to detect, diagnose, and prevent illness. Radiology is an important diagnostic tool that our veterinarians use to look inside your pet’s body in a non-invasive way. X-rays allow us to get an overall look at your pet’s organs and they help us detect and prevent illness.
Abdominal ultrasound allows us to get an even better look at your pet’s internal organs. Ultrasound uses sound waves to offer a non-invasive, painless, and radiation-free method of imaging your pet’s internal organs.
Our veterinarians are trained in both of these procedures and we also partner with local board certified radiologists to analyze your pet’s radiographs and to perform full abdominal ultrasounds.
EMERGENCY VISITS
We are not an emergency or urgent care veterinary hospital and operate on an appointment basis so that we can be fully present with our patients and clients that have appointments. If your pet is ill or injured last minute please call ahead to our office before heading in so that we can best direct you on whether we can fit you in for an appointment and if not, where you should go.
We also recommend that all pet owners know where the closest veterinary emergency hospital is located. The three 24/7 facilities in town are:
North Springs Veterinary Referral Center (719-920-4430): 10520 White Diamond Pt, Colorado Springs, CO 80908
Animal ER Care (719-260-7141): 5520 N Nevada Ave #150, Colorado Springs, CO 80918
